Tropical Paradise Décor
Get away from it all with a trip to a tropical paradise right in your own home!
- Start with soft green or blue-green walls for a tranquil feeling or go with a soft yellow for a warm sunny feeling.
- Choose lighter colors for a Caribbean look and darker, richer colors for a South Seas ambiance.
- Use some colorful accents here and there.
- Floor coverings made of sisal, sea grass, jute, or bamboo can add to the tropical flavor.
- Rattan and wicker furniture or wood furniture with wicker baskets for storage can enhance the tropical look.
- Choose a tropical print that compliments the wall color for cushions and/or pillows.
- A palm-blade ceiling fan will circulate the air with style.
- I f your bar is outside, make sure you pick furniture and cushions made for the outside.
- You can add a market umbrella with your favorite beer brand.
- Don’t forget the plants. Pygmy or Raphis palms work well but you can use artificial plants if you don’t have a “green thumb.”
Some brands to consider:
- Kalik from the Bahamas
- Cruzan Rum from the Virgin Islands
- Corona –from Mexico
- El Sol-also Mexican
- Pacifico – another Mexican beer
-
Parrot Bay
-
Red Stripe
- Look for metal signs advertising your favorite brands from the Caribbean and Mexico to display on the wall.
- Cover large areas with a banner advertising your favorite laid back tropical brand.
- Use brand mirrors on the wall behind the bar. If they aren’t framed, look for a bamboo frame or take a piece of grass cloth and cover a piece of plywood larger than your mirror and attach the mirror to the plywood.
- Find your favorite kick-back place’s national flag and hang it on the wall from a bamboo pole.
- Nautical maps of islands look great when framed and hung on the wall.
- Inflatable signs in the shape of parrots, boats, bottles, etc. can create a party atmosphere in your room.
